ABOUT US
Right now there are 26,000 severely mentally ill people being tortured in the isolation units of jails and prison in America. It most facilities, it is standard operating procedure to punish minor misbehavior with severe abuse. Detainees are tortured with: Hypothermia, hyperthermia, infection (after being left in rotting filth and excrement for days, even weeks), starvation, dehydration, beatings, pepper spray, being completely restrained (chained at the wrists, ankles, and waist to a bench or specially designed chair) for many hours or even days without food, water, or bathroom breaks,
First, most mentally ill people are arrested for "crimes" that aren't legally responsible for because they were psychotic when they committed them. We have documented several of these cases on the Murders page, but one example is a kid that was having his first manic episode. He was delusional and thought he was entitled to free things. So he walked into a gas station, took $5.05 worth of snacks, and walked out. He ended up in jail for several months before dying of starvation (and the other abuse he endured).
There is no reason for anyone to spend months in jail over $5, but it's especially bad when it was a mentally ill person who did not understand they were doing something wrong. The mentally ill are now mostly "treated" in jail, not the hospital. The conditions in the isolation psych units resemble medieval torture chambers. Please review the cases we have documented on the "Murders" page to understand the severity of these conditions.
People think these victims are only tortured after being extremely disruptive and somehow deserve it. That isn't the case most of the time. The guards who work in these units are often sadistic psychopaths. They are bored at work and entertain themselves by abusing a group of people that they hate and see no value in. They look for excuses to get angry just so they can enjoy punishing someone. They majorly over react.
For example, a detainee will spit out a correctional officer. The spit doesn't even touch them, but just the audacity of doing such a thing warrants severe punishment. They are chained to specially designed 7-point restraint chair, pepper sprayed repeatedly, and left to suffer without it being washed out for hours. That has been caught on surveillance camera multiple times.
A confused, scared, mentally ill person acts out in a minor way, they are severely punished, the punishment makes their psychosis worse, so they act out again, the reacting punishment is even more severe, and it turns into a vicious cycle, which will occasionally end in death. This is a systemic problem that occurs in almost every single jail and prison in the country. Our purpose is to bring awareness to the issue. Please see the documented cases to understand the scope of the issue.
